This is one of my first illustrations for a BBC audiobook cover. It’s not in my usual cartoon style. First I created a simple 3D model of the rocket in Adobe Illustrator. Then I made a texture in Photoshop, and wrapped it around the 3D model.
Here’s the flat texture (or ‘skin’). I had to distort the rivets near the bottom to compensate for the distortion caused by the shape of the rocket body. I just did this by trial and error, until it looked right.
